Olivia Gude is a leading figure in contemporary art education, known for her innovative approaches that challenge traditional curricula and advocate for socially engaged, student-centered learning.
Gude's philosophy centers on reimagining art education to reflect the complexities of contemporary life. She encourages educators to move beyond conventional elements and principles of design, urging the adoption of curricula that foster critical thinking, cultural awareness, and personal expression. Her work emphasizes the importance of addressing the "hidden curriculum"—the implicit messages conveyed through traditional art projects—and advocates for the creation of new "school art styles" that resonate with students' experiences and contemporary art practices.
This is a webinar I need to watch regarding the upcoming changes in the IBDP Visual arts course starting in August for the May 2027 cohort.

Advice to share
An important thing I learned during Clinical Practice was to communicate my needs and advocate for extensions. I do not like missing deadlines but it has been the only way for me to juggle the TEACH-NOW program assignments with my current full time teaching responsibilities.

Personal Achievement
Cooking healthy meals and carving out time to rest during an intensive teacher prep program.

Personal Ethics
I believe in authenticity and treating students and teachers with courtesy and respect.
